Quote from the "Expert"
A would-be filmmaker was twice rejected by the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He managed to become a filmmaker anyway, and did rather well for himself. His name was Steven Spielberg, and he went on to win three Oscars and create movies that grossed more than $9 billion. In time, USC built a school and named it in his honor.
Quote of the Month
"We are nothing else than evolution become conscious of itself."
Nike is running TV spots touting the individual as "Unlimited you."
The Cosmic & The Comic
"God is the funniest man in the universe."
–Dr. Finch, in Running with Scissors
According to a report by the Federal Reserve, nearly half of Americans couldn't cover an unexpected $400 expense without borrowing the money or selling something.

It is Indeed a Wonderful Life
In December for the umpteenth time I'll watch my favorite film, It's a Wonderful Life. In my 20s, a secret pleasure was introducing friends to the Frank Capra classic. It was a spiritual experience for Capra virgins.
If you're foggy on the plot, it opens in Heaven, where a senior angel is telling a junior wingless counterpart about a boy named George Bailey. The boy's growing up is a cinematic dossier for Clarence, the angel, preparing him for his chance for wings when, years later, George reaches a deep existential crisis.
George is a good kid–he'd grow up to be Jimmy Stewart; enough said, a devoted son, a devoted brother–he loses the hearing in one ear to save his brother from drowning. He has a great yen for traveling the world, but sacrifices his dreams to work for his father's credit union and help put his brother through college. When it's finally time to pack his bags for faraway places his dad dies, and he sacrifices again to keep the building and loan running. He passes on a chance to get in on the ground floor of his rich buddy's burgeoning business because his heart isn't in it. George only does what his heart is into or what duty demands; he follows his dharma, his spiritual duty dutifully. He marries a childhood sweetheart (the ever-sweet Donna Reed) and moves in to a run-down derelict building. In time, children come, the Depression hits, there's a run on the bank, and he saves the homes of his customers by resisting the seductive offers of the town millionaire scrooge, who's trying to get his clammy hands on their homes to turn them into a shanty town. A crisis comes when his absent-minded uncle and partner loses an enormous deposit at the bank, an act which George takes responsibility for, and will send him to jail for malfeasance. Broke and hopeless, he jump off the bridge, figuring that his life insurance policy makes him more valuable dead than alive.
We all know people who've sunk into deep depressions where they can't think straight; sometimes, sadly, suicide ensues. George doesn't believe that the savior who pulls him out of the water is his guardian angel. Until the bumbler hits on a big idea: to show George, who thinks his life has been meaningless, just how important it truly has been. What follows is a Twilight Zone spell in which George wanders his familiar town, but nobody knows him: Clarence is granting his wish, and showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born.
His former pharmacist boss is a rummy because George wasn't there to intercept the poison he'd accidentally put into a prescription when his son died. His mother is an angry childless widow because her son didn't have an older brother to save him from drowning. His uncle is in an insane asylum. His idyllic town has become the shanty Pottersville, because he wasn't there to keep the building and loan alive to help people get affordable housing. The nightmare continues until George begs for release from the spell.
He returns home, broke, with the law waiting for him, but that's when Kleenex boxes get busy: in the final emotionally charged scene George discovers how important he truly is. When his wife had discovered that he needed money, she let everyone whose life George had so deeply touched know –and they raised the money his uncle lost–and then some–and the police join the celebration of George's wonderful life.
This film should be given to everyone who's depressed; it might save them the need for anti-depressants, it might save them wallowing in despair; it might even save their lives.
Years ago, I studied with the guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who, in his commentary on the great yoga classic, the Bhagavad Gita, wrote that "unfathomable is the field of karma (action)." This film shows ever so poignantly the effect that a single life has on the lives of so many others. If you know someone who's depressed, pick up this spiritual classic from Netflix, so they can see that they, too, are living a wonderful life.
Want to Write a Book? New Publishing Venture Set up for You to Fulfill that Dream
How would you like to have your own book published and available on Amazon? That dream can now become a reality, with the help of on-demand publishing technology, and the writing, editing, graphic design, and marketing and public relations team that I've put in place for that very purpose.
Here's the team that's set up for you:
A graphic designer who has worked for Disney World, Harley Davidson, and Touchstone Pictures, among other credits. She's also a complete joy to work with, as I can attest–she was the designer on my most recent book, 40 Days to a Happy Life.
A writer/editor who's been a columnist for The Motley Fool, the editor-in-chief for Mortgageloan.com, Completegrowth.com, and Creditland.com, who has edited five books and was the ghost writer on one. She also wrote for such Fortune 500 companies as Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Charles Schwab, Prudential, and the Hartford, among others.
Also on the team as a writer is yours truly. I've written five full-length books and more than three dozen mini-books.
The venture's book publicist has helped authors make the best-seller lists of the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and has had her clients featured on Oprah, The Today Show, Good Morning, America, Time, Newsweek, Business Week, Forbes, NPR, Redbook, and Ladies' Home Journal, among others. She's worked for such authors as Jack Canfield and Jacqueline Miller, Heart at Work (McGraw-Hill); Terri Orbuch, 5 Simple Steps to Take Your Marriage from Good to Great (Random House); Sophy Burnham, The Path of Prayer: Reflections on Prayer and True Stories of How It Affects Our Lives (Viking Penguin); and Charles Garfield, Susun Weed, Gerald Celente, and Drs. Susan Lark, Ro Brock, and Stephen Sinatra, among others, and for authors who've been published by virtually every major publishing house in America.
If you'd like to talk about how you can have a dream come true and have your own book or mini-book in print, and would either like to write it or have someone ghost write it for you, don't hesitate to call at (954) 788-3380, or email me at email@example.com
We're here to make that dream of yours come true.
Higher Self Healing Meditation
I'm proud to announce the development of a new meditation training that's been
marinating in the quietest levels of consciousness deep within my soul for a number of years. Its name is Higher Self Healing Meditation, and it's as effortless as Transcendental Meditation (TM) that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi trained me to teach when I was 20 years old.
Some years back, the movement that teaches the late Maharishi's system of TM significantly changed the requirements for those who had been teaching to continue to do so. As a result, thousands of others, including myself, no longer instruct that method. But understanding the mechanics of how the mind transcends in meditation after teaching meditation to so many hundreds of people from southern California and Western Europe to the Caribbean and many points in between–as well as training dozens of teachers of Transcendental Meditation–I've developed a system of meditation that's as effective as TM, as easy as TM, and available at one third the price that it costs to learn TM.
Have you thought about incorporating a daily stress-management system to:
release deep-rooted tension,
enliven happiness, and
enable you to contact the inexhaustible reservoir of creativity and intelligence deep within you at the transcendental level of Being?
If so, let me know, and I can explain how easy it is to learn over the course of five hours in three consecutive days. You can reach me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (845) 679-5526.
I have my site set up properly, and I've begun to write regularly. If you would like to have my blog entries mailed to you, there's a place on my website where you can enter your email address: http://carybayer.com/blog/.html
Face to Face to Facebook
With the Internet being a much faster means of transport than the Interstate highways that I find myself on each month, the World Wide Web is, like rock 'n' roll, here to stay, and presumably, also will never die. That being the case, I've recently created a page on Facebook that can help you more deeply understand the ancient wisdom behind meditation.
The page is called Higher Self Healing Meditation.
You can like it at https://www.facebook.com/higherselfhealingmeditation/?ref=hl
Let me know what you think of my posts.
When I ran my own marketing/PR firm, I loved thanking anyone who referred a new client to me, by sending a check for 10 percent of the fees generated. I have a similar policy as a life coach, a meditation teacher, and the writer of books for others. If you inspire someone to become a client of mine for coaching or book writing, or a meditation student, you'll receive 10 percent of the fee that that person begins with me at. That could easily mean a check for you of $105 or $65 for coaching, for $50 for meditation, and hundreds of dollars for book publishing. It's my way of saying, "thanks."
My thought is simple–who couldn't use a piece of unexpected income?
